For an attractive location (Norton Street, Leichhardt) surrounded by a long-stretch of restaurants of different cuisines, The Royal Leicchardt was definitely up against tough competition. Previously, it wasn't the most desirable place to hang out with your mates on a Friday night - to put it nicely, it was an absolute hole. Recently, the pub/bar has undergone renovation under new management and things seem to be looking up!

The Royal Leichhardt has two levels, this is the newly renovated second level: The Royal Botanical. (Image sourced from - https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Royal-Leichhardt/552810148098015) |
The Royal Botanical, situated upstairs, is the new dining room, bar and garden terrace that is offering up not only an appealing menu (check it out here), but also a welcoming venue at which to sample this fare. The layout of the main room is traditionally bistro-style, yet freshened up with handing baskets and framed botanicals on the wall, as well as views over the district, should you nab a window seat.
All in all, if you're looking for a bar to meet up with friends or have some after-work drinks that isn't located in the city (let's face it, parking and Sydney city do not go well together at all) then the Royal Hotel is worth checking out. Don't let it's exterior fool you (looks like any old Aussie pub), because it looks absolutely great inside after the interior renovations.

Needless to say, the hotel - which has been part of Leicchardt since 1886 - has been spruced up a notch, yet managed to stick to its customary roots with class.
