The Museum of Contemporary Art - The Rocks, Sydney

Having recently undergone development and refurbishment in 2010 and reopening in early 2012, the Museum of Contemporary Art solely dedicates itself in exhibiting, interpreting, and collecting contemporary art both from Australia and internationally. Located conveniently by The Rocks, it is a short walk from Circular Quay train station.

There is no admission fee and you are free to explore all five levels of the museum to your heart's content. Exhibitions change every few months so there is always a guarantee that you will see something new. There are a lot of things to go through and don't be surprised if you take up to 2-3 hours trying to go through every single level. There are guided tours (which are also free) available if you feel overwhelmed and intimidated.

Even if you hold no interest in art, this is definitely the place you should check out. I can assure you that you will find something that will pique your curiosity. From my experience, there are many mediums of art from photographs, paintings, sculptures, videos, and even those which require viewer participation. There's something for everyone!

And if you're still skeptical, there is a lovely cafe on the fourth level of the museum. You could not ask for a better view of Circular Quay and the food isn't bad either (see the menu here).
